Direct Vision Standard 2024

The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) is aimed at increasing the safety of HGVs over 12 tonnes operating in Greater London.
From October 2024, a minimum direct vision standard star rating of 3-stars (currently 1-star) will be required for HGVs to continue operating within the enforcement area.
The star rating is a rating granted from vehicle manufacturer.
Permits granted to HGVs that have achieved DVS compliance will be valid for 10 years, following October 2024 .

If your vehicle does NOT meet the Direct Vision Standard requirements,

a DVS Progressive Safe System is required to be granted a DVS Permit.

What are the 2024 DVS Progressive Safe System Requirements?

FRONT BLIND SPOT: A Moving Off Information System (MOIS) fitted to the front of the vehicle with active alerts warning driver.
**In line with TFL‘s Technical Specs for PSS. Systems complying with BSIS UN 159 will meet requirements.
NEARSIDE BLIND SPOT #1: A Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) with active alerts warning driver.
**In line with TFL‘s Technical Specs for PSS. Systems complying with BSIS UN 151 will meet requirements.
NEARSIDE BLIND SPOT #2: A nearside Camera Monitoring System, or Class V & Class VI mirrors, eliminating remaining nearside blind spots, if any.
AUDIBLE ALERTS: Audible vehicle manoeuvring alert warning cyclists and pedestrians when a vehicle is turning left.
SIDE UNDER-RUN PROTECTION: Fitted to both sides of the vehicle. Must comply with UN Reg 73.
EXTERNAL BLIND SPOT WARNING STICKERS

The chosen PSS System will ONLY pass IF street furniture is NOT detected when tested.
